Cannot scan film

    Issue

    You do not know how to set a film on the scanner.
    You do not know how to adjust the driver's settings when scanning film.
    Computer stops operating during scanning.

    Cause and Solution

    FAU cable on the back of the scanner is disconnected.
    Reconnect the FAU cable on the back of the scanner.

    The protective sheet is not removed.
    Remove the protective sheet from the document cover.
    Setting Film
    1. Make sure that the FAU cable is properly connected.

    The film guide is not in position.
    Place the film guide on the document glass correctly.
    Setting Film
    1. Make sure that the FAU cable is properly connected.

    The calibration slot on the film guide is blocked.
    Do not block the calibration slot on the Film Guide with film or something.
    Do not block the calibration slot on the Film Guide with film or something.
    Do not block the calibration slot (1) on the film guide when scanning film.
    Colors will not scan correctly if the calibration slot is obstructed.

    The document cover is not closed.
    Close the document cover properly.

    ScanGear CS or CanoScan Toolbox is not set for scanning film.
    Solution 1: In [Select Source] of ScanGear CS, select [Negative Film(Color)] or [Positive Film(Color)] in the Simple Mode, or [Color Negative Film], [Color Positive Film], [Monochrome Negative Film] or [Monochrome Positive Film] in the Advanced Mode.
    Solution 2: Select [Film] or [Auto mode] in [Select Source] of CanoScan Toolbox.

    ScanGear is the scanner driver software used for scanning documents and film. You can start ScanGear from an application program that supports TWAIN, an industry standard for acquiring images using external devices.
    In Simple Mode of ScanGear, you can perform scanning by following simple instructions displayed on the window.

    ScanGear is the scanner driver software used for scanning documents and film. You can start ScanGear from an application program that supports TWAIN, an industry standard for acquiring images using external devices.
    In Advanced Mode of ScanGear, you can specify more detailed settings (i.e., color mode, output resolution, brightness, and color balance) when scanning.

    Scanning Film with Toolbox
    1. Set the film on the scanner.
    (1) Remove the protective sheet from the document cover.
    (2) Place the film.
    (3) Close the document cover.

    Resolution setting is too high and scanning stops partway through.
    Adjust the resolution and scan again.
    Scanning may stop partway through if the resolution setting is too high.
    You can adjust the resolution by changing the setting of ScanGear or CanoScan Toolbox.

    The light unit inside of the scanner is not fully warmed up.
    Wait for a minute or two until the light unit warms up, then try scanning again.
