    Issue

    Cause and Solution

Ensure that the appropriate paper is selected in the printer driver.
Ensure that the paper selected for Media Type in the Main tab (Windows) or the Quality & Media in the pop-up menu of the Print dialog box (Macintosh) matches paper loaded in the printer.

Print the nozzle check pattern to ensure that the ink is ejected properly.
If the nozzle check pattern does not print out properly, check if any of the missing colors are due to those color ink tanks being empty.
If there is plenty of ink and the printer does not print, clean the Print Head then print the nozzle check pattern to ensure ink is ejected properly.
If the problem is not resolved after performing Print Head Cleaning twice, carry out the Print Head Deep Cleaning.
If the problem is not resolved after performing Print Head Deep Cleaning, turn off the printer then perform Print Head Deep Cleaning again 24 hours later.
If the problem still persists, the Print Head may be damaged. Contact a Canon service representative.
For details on how to print the nozzle check pattern, how to clean the Print Head, and how to perform Print Head Deep Cleaning, see "Printing the Nozzle Check Pattern", "Print Head Cleaning", "Print Head Deep Cleaning ".

Ensure that you are printing on the correct side of the media.
You can only print on one side of certain media.
Printing on the wrong side may cause unclear prints or prints with reduced quality.

Even up the particle concentration of the ink.
The particles of the ink may settle toward the bottom of the tank, and this will cause the uneven particle concentration of the ink.
    • Perform Print Head Cleaning. For details, see "Print Head Cleaning".
    • Press the RESUME/CANCEL button on the printer to shake the ink tanks.
To maintain optimal print quality, press the RESUME/CANCEL button on the printer about once a week to shake the ink tanks.

Ensure that the input profile in the printer driver is set correctly. ( Windows )
If printout color of photographs that are taken in Adobe RGB mode is not satisfactory, configure the input profile and then try printing again. It may improve the quality of printout color.
    1. Open the printer properties dialog box.
    2. On the Main tab, select Manual for Color/Intensity, and then click Set.
    3. Select ICM [Windows Image Color Management] for Color Correction.

    Straight Lines Are Misaligned
    • Align the Print Head.
Printing without the Print Head aligned may cause straight lines to be misaligned. After the Print Head is installed, align it.
See "Automatic Print Head Alignment " and perform Automatic Print Head Alignment. If this does not solve the problem, see " Manual Print Head Alignment" and carry out Manual Print Head Alignment.
    • In the printer driver settings, select a higher Print Quality setting.
    1. Open the printer properties dialog box.
    2. On the Main tab, click High for the Print Quality setting.
