Solution
With this camera, if the mode dial is set to anything other than <
>, the exposure is determined by the camera and automatically set to a suitable value. To adjust the value determined by the camera to an exposure more suitable to the desired photo, use exposure compensation.
Exposure compensation can brighten (increased exposure) or darken (decreased exposure) the standard exposure set by the camera. The value can be adjusted in the <
/
/
> modes.

Use the following procedure for exposure compensation.
1. Set the camera's power switch to <ON>.
2. Set the mode dial to one of the following: <
/
/
>.
3. Press the shutter button halfway and check the exposure level indicator, then while looking in the viewfinder or at the LCD monitor, turn the <
> dial.
If it cannot be set, set the <LOCK> switch downward, then turn the <
> dial. If you set exposure compensation, <
> will be displayed in the viewfinder and on the LCD panel.

4. Press the shutter button to shoot.
- To cancel the exposure compensation, set the exposure compensation amount back to <>.
IMPORTANT
If [
: Auto Lighting Optimizer ] is set to any setting other than [Disable], the image may still look bright even if a decreased exposure compensation for a darker image is set.
NOTE
The exposure compensation amount will remain in effect even after you set the power switch to <OFF>.
